A Destination

Blackbrick Chinese is the latest passion project of Chef Richard Hales and crew.  Chef Hales reinvigorated Asian food in Miami with his first restaurant Sakaya Kitchen in 2009 and food truck Dim Ssam a gogo in 2010.  Blackbrick Chinese was one of the most anticipated openings of 2013 and has been received to critical acclaim.  Miami New times says "Blackbrick in Midtown Serves the Chinese Food You've Been Waiting For" and Miami Herald critic gave Blackbrick "3 Stars, Very Good"

Blackbrick stylized but playful interior was designed by Chef Hales himself and menu was created from his travels in China, experience in NYC and collaboration with Chef Chok his Chinese Chef.  The design and menu speak to the mind of Chef Hales, funky, adventurous and a focus on good homey food.

Mission

Our mission at Blackbrick is to provide honest food in an atmosphere without pretension. To serve the community, change the food scene for the better by offering a different view of a common cuisine.

Family Business

The Hales family owns Blackbrick and operates it as a family business.  Living among the Midtown community of friends and patrons they serve. Our goal is to provide affordable neighborhood restaurants with great food and service.

Giving

Blackbrick as well as Sakaya Kitchen and Dim Ssam a gogo are active in giving to charity.  We have assisted Lotus House, Special Olympics, Best Buddies, United Way, Ronald Mcdonald house to name a few as well as supporting local businesses and farms.

Richard Hales

EXECUTIVE CHEF OWNER

Richard loves to eat and has traveled the world over from a home base in NYC and Miami to satisfy his hunger.  Picking up techniques all along the way either behind the stove working for free at a place that just blew his mind or sitting in the dining room eating.  For Blackbrick the above said eating and/or stints as a stage happened in Hong Kong, Sichuan and Dongbei. No tweezers just good cookin'

Chok aka Ivan

CHEF DE CUISINE

Chok is the man with the mad wok skills and throws down better than anyone.  Starting as a teenager in his uncles Dim Sum shop in Hong Kong to owning two Chinese restaurants in Miami during his four decades as a chef. Chok has been there and done that to put it mildly.  Truly of master of all things Chinese.  Say hello to Chok he is the nicest guy in the biz.

Jenny Hales

Fortune Cookie Teller

Jenny Hales aka Wife Hales aka Wife Hales' cookie of Sakaya Kitchen fame is the rock of the operation.  Keeping things running smoother than smooth and making it fun with the off the wall fortunes in her house-made fortune cookies.

Feng Luo

ASSISTANT CHEF

Feng was formally trained in China in his home province of Hunan and is bringing the heat literally to the food.  You want true Hunan or Sichuan style food then sit at the bar and ask Feng to cook your food.  He is the master of working with chili in any form and is the backbone of all our spicy sauces and spice blends.  A little grouchy but we let him get away with it because of sick skills.
